Sellers and agents go through some trouble to make the house presentable. Be courteous and try to keep dirt off clean floors and furniture. Take your shoes off if you are being asked. Make sure to watch your children and make sure that they don’t touch household items.

If there is a sign up sheet for open house visitors, you might want to sign your name and leave contact information.

If you really like the house, take down some notes and contact your agent.

Refrain from taking your pets to an open house.

If you are actively looking to buy a house, take a flyer from each open house and write your comments. This will eliminate the confusion after visiting several open houses.

Keep your personal belongings with you all the time while walking through the open house.

Agents are there to help you and answer your questions. Your questions can include:

Sellers’ reasons for selling the house. Understanding sellers motivation could effect your offer if you decide to purchase that house.
Other offers that might be pending. This will help if you really like the house and thinking about placing a back-up offer.
Duration of the house on the market. If a house has been on the market for a long period of time, you might want to find out why that is the case.
Whether or not some of the furniture will be included in the listing price.
Agent’s familiarity of the neighborhood and other homes for sale.
